Food drive for KAIR garners nine tons in donations
KALKASKA - No, there was no new record. But, that didn’t matter, as Kalkaska Area Interfaith Resource officials are celebrating another successful 24-Hour Kampout For KAIR food drive on Oct. 12-13.
An estimated nine tons in donations were collected at the Bill Marsh Kalkaska Dealership ,as well as participating stores.
All of the donations will go to the KAIR food pantry to help feed families in need throughout Kalkaska County.
“It’s a tremendous help,” said Cathy Somes, KAIR director.
According to KAIR officials, the food drive is as important as ever, with KAIR reportedly facing a 25-percent increase in requests for food items.
“We are seeing anywhere from 900 to 1,000 people come in looking for food every month,” Somes said prior to the annual food drive. “We would especially like to increase our help for families with children, but we need to fill up the food pantry before that can happen.”
