Fire takes life of beloved Bellaire resident and son
BELLAIRE — "I stood in the street and stared yesterday — I couldn't believe it," said Marguerite Karabin Monday morning. "She was such a good person."
Karabin, a resident of Bellaire for many years, was speaking of her longtime friend Shirley Gordon, 85, who perished in a fire in her North Bridge Street home early Sunday morning.
Also living in the house at the time of the fire was Gordon's son Scott, formerly of Pittsburgh, who also died, and his wife Kathy, who managed to escape and was transported to Traverse City's Munson Medical Center suffering from smoke inhalation.
