BEAR LAKE TWP. – The Kalkaska County Sheriff’s Department is continuing its investigation into a two-vehicle accident Sunday afternoon, May 26, that claimed the life of a 59-year-old Kalkaska resident.

Sheriff’s department officials announced that Todd Herman David, 59, of Kalkaska was pronounced dead at the scene of an accident reported at 3:18 p.m. on Sunday at the intersection of County Road 612 and West Bear Lake Road.

According to KCSD reports, David was riding a Harley Davidson motorcycle eastbound on County Road 612 when he was allegedly struck by a Ford F-150 pickup truck that was traveling north on West Bear Lake Road and failed to stop at the stop sign at the intersection with the county roadway.

“The truck crossed into the path of an eastbound Harley Davidson motorcycle, which struck the driver’s side rear door of the truck,” said Sheriff Patrick Whiteford in a prepared statement. “The Ford F-150 rolled over twice before coming to rest upright north of the intersection.

“Distracted driving and speed are believed to be factors in the crash,” he added.

KCSD officials identified 38-year-old Canton resident William G. Kaczur as the driver of the Ford truck. He reportedly was uninjured in the crash.

However, sheriff’s officials added that Kaczur’s wife, 33-year-old Amanda M. Kacsur, was transported to Munson Medical Center in Traverse City for “non-life threatening injuries.”

According to reports, she was “an unrestrained backseat passenger” in the truck at the time of the accident.

The fatal crash reportedly remains listed as an open investigation by KCSD officials and is being forwarded to the Kalkaska County Prosecutor’s Office for further review.
