BELLAIRE — A hydrology study of the Elk River watershed that may help find ways to contain high water levels on the Chain Of Lakes is progressing, according to information provided during the Intermediate Lake Association's monthly meeting held via Zoom on July 22.

The study, which is being conducted by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers in cooperation with Antrim County through Operator of Dams Mark Stone and the Intermediate Lake Association, began last fall after Antrim County agreed to contribute $77,000 to the $365,000 study, which is being primarily funded by the Corps of Engineers.

The study is the first official step toward finding a possible solution to lowering record high water levels and curbing flooding, which was experienced by riparian property owners throughout the Chain between 2013 and 2019.
