Elk Rapids student manager advances from ER to Final Four

CHICAGO — In the spring of 2017, Elk Rapids senior Andrew Ducharme was weighing the pros and cons of where he would go to college.

The class valedictorian was interested in pursuing a double major of math and physics and had narrowed down his choices to Loyola University of Chicago or the University of Michigan. A major deciding factor was Loyola would allow him to finish his undergrad plans in three years, while Michigan required four. The second major issue was after Ducharme had emailed both schools asking if there were any opportunities in the basketball programs to be a statistician or student manager, a job he had done for the Elk Rapids boys basketball program for several years. “Loyola immediately offered me a spot while Michigan gave me a tepid response saying there was possibility of joining,” Ducharme said. 

The Loyola Ramblers then gained Andrew Ducharme as a student, and student manager for the men’s basketball team, resulting in a trip to the Final Four.
