Eagles upended in battle for top spot in SVC

BELLAIRE — For now, the Snowbirds are alone on their perch.

Gaylord St. Mary claimed sole possession of first place in the Ski Valley Conference girls basketball standings when it edged Bellaire 41-39 on Wednesday, Jan. 17 in a battle between the top two teams in the conference.

It was a game that St. Mary led from start to finish, but wasn’t decided until Lexi Niepoth’s half-court heave at the buzzer was off the mark.
