BELLAIRE — The local downhill skiing community was in a state of mourning after the death of longtime ski instructor Charles “Chick” Round over the weekend.

Round suffered an accident at Schuss Mountain on Saturday night during the annual torchlight parade. The Antrim County Sheriff’s Department was notified of the accident on Sunday and was still gathering information on what happened. Few details have been released pending an investigation.

“We have just now started our investigation,” said Undersheriff Dean Pratt. “I can confirm we did have a recreational accident at Shanty Creek.”
