Amelia Crosby, of South Boardman, enjoys a hot dog and the warmth of a bonfire during last year’s Carly’s Hill Snow Fun Day Cardboard Classic at the Springfield Township Park & Recreation Area. This year’s event is scheduled for Saturday, Jan. 27. Besides sledding, the community celebration will also include plenty of food, refreshments, kids’ games, a safety helmet fitting and door prizes, all of which were free of charge to those attending.

FIFE LAKE – It seems nothing will stop organizers from hosting the sixth annual Carly’s Hill Snow Fun Day Cardboard Classic this Saturday, Jan. 27, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Springfield Township Park & Recreation Area.

That includes, at least for now, an unseasonal lack of snow.

“Yes, we’re still going to have it,” said Tammy Budrow, who coordinates the event. “What we’re thinking is it takes so many volunteers, it’d be hard to reschedule.

“So, we’re going to hope there’s enough snow.”

The fun day and cardboard sled race has become an annual community celebration at the township park, located at the intersection of Lund and Creighton roads, as well as a showcase for creativity.

Last year, there were a record 70 entries that included sleds of all different shapes, sizes and colors made only of cardboard, duct tape and glue.
