Crossing over: Scouts celebrate trio moving forward at annual banquet

Cub Scout Joshua Phillips gets set to "crossover" a ceremonial bridge to become a Boy Scout in Troop No. 629 during the annual awards banquet last Saturday at Kalkaska United Methodist Church.

KALKASKA – There was plenty to celebrate at the annual Kalkaska Cub and Boy Scouts Pack/Troop No. 629 “Blue and Gold” Awards Banquet on Saturday, Feb. 24 at the Kalkaska United Methodist Church (KUMC).

The banquet, which marks the 2017-18 year for local scouts, also reflected a notable growth in the group.

“We registered about 30 new scouts in September,” said Terri Sibole, Pack/Troop No. 629 scout leader.

With nearly 60 scouts overall participating in this year’s programs, Sibole said it was one of the best years in the local group’s history.

“It’s proof scouting is alive and well,” Sibole said, adding that the local pack/troop is one of the fastest growing in northern Michigan. “And, it shows that we’re doing something right.”
