Couple host final WU banquet, seek individuals to take over
KALKASKA – For more than two decades, Pat “Pops” Modos and his wife, Pam, have hosted the Kalkaska Area Chapter of Whitetails Unlimited annual banquet and helped raise thousands of dollars in the process.
But, the Bear Lake Township couple and former owners of Dingman’s Bar, said it’s time they stepped down and someone else stepped up.
Pops made it official that he and Pam would no longer serve as the primary organizers of the annual banquet and local WU chapter at this year’s banquet Thursday, Sept. 13, at the Kalkaska Moose Lodge on M-66, south of Kalkaska.
“After 23 years, we’re retiring,” Pops told the estimated 128 people attending the dinner and fundraiser. “I’d rather have someone else doing it. And, we do not want to lose this chapter.”
His wife agreed.
“We had a good run,” she said later. “We met a lot of great people and had a lot of fun. (But) we are ready to be on the other side of the table now.”
The annual banquet has become an important fundraiser, with Whitetails Unlimited providing a percentage of the proceeds for local conservation and outdoor programs.
