KALKASKA – Jennifer Standerfer might be back to work as the Village of Kalkaska treasurer, though she apparently isn’t quite on the same page yet as some other village officials.

The Kalkaska Village Council was prepared to vote on a new, more stringent policy regarding credit card usage by village employees at its regular meeting Monday, Feb. 26. But, that proposed policy was tabled after Standerfer, who was recently suspended for more than six weeks for insubordination, questioned the policy and whether it fell short of meeting state guidelines.

“Why was I not talked to about this?” Standerfer asked council members, adding that she should have been, in light of her role as treasurer and the village’s financial officer.

Standerfer said she, as treasurer, should oversee credit card usage, not the village manager as proposed in the revamped policy. Also, she added that operating under a “policy” wasn’t valid under state law, which requires the higher standards of an approved ordinance.
