Commissioners reduce recycling millage rates

BELLAIRE – During a special virtual meeting held on Thursday, May 21, the Antrim County Board of Commissioners renewed the county’s Commission On Aging, Antrim Conservation District, Meadow Brook Medical Care Facility and general county operations millages at 2019 rates, but reduced the rate of the county’s recycling millage.  

Noting that the annual cost of the recycling program has never been as much as the amount levied, Equalization Director Jamie Houserman recommended that the existing 2019 recycling millage rate of .1952 be reduced to .1950, a small annual savings for taxpayers, which will also cover the annual $20,000 being paid to the Antrim Conservation District for management of the program.  

The 2020 recycling millage rate will generate $392,416.  The current year contract with American Waste has a not-to-exceed price of $339,000 for 2020.
