Commissioners OK 50-cent raise for non-union employees
KALKASKA — It might be less than what some wanted, but the Kalkaska County Board of Commissioners found enough wiggle room financially to give all non-union employees a 50-cent per hour raise.
Commissioners approved the pay hike at their regular monthly meeting Wednesday, March 17. Though, the issue wasn’t easy to resolve.
At first, commissioners considered a potential raise for the drain commissioner and the board itself. However, the motion was later withdrawn.
Later in the meeting, District No. 6 Craig Crambell proposed a motion for wage increases for elected officials including the register of deeds, county treasurer, county clerk, sheriff and prosecutor.
District No. 7 Commissioner Katina Banko reportedly disagreed with any wage increases for elected officials before approving such a pay hike for other county employees.
