Citizens raise concerns over tree cuttings

ELK RAPIDS – After seeing a number of its trees destroyed in the wrath of major storms experienced throughout the region over the past few years, residents in the Village of Elk Rapids are especially sensitive to even more loss – especially at the hands of those wielding chainsaws.

That concern was raised early during Monday’s regular village council meeting.

Speaking on behalf of his fellow residents, Greg Reisig questioned council members over recent (and ongoing) tree cuttings in the village, and why residents – including its own Green Elk Rapids committee – didn’t receive preliminary notification of the action.

“It’s upsetting,” Reisig said, “especially that there was no advance notice and GreenER wasn’t even notified. I discovered it while out on a walk with my wife. We saw that they were cutting trees on the Island property.”
