Chestonia to consider proposal for medical marijuana facility

ALBA – The Chestonia Township Board of Trustees will discuss a proposal for a medical marijuana processing facility in the township at its April meeting, according to township supervisor Gerald Averill.

Contrary to what many believed, the board of trustees had not made a decision either for or against having the facilities – now legal in Michigan – in Chestonia Township when Averill was approached by a representative for a medical marijuana group last November.

At that time, all 14 of Antrim County's other townships had already decided against the idea, with several townships passing ordinances to that effect.

Star Township had been the most recent municipality in the county to be approached by medical marijuana proponents, turning down a proposal for a processor last fall.

"But we hadn't decided about anything, and didn't have any ordinances or anything like that when I was contacted by this person," Averill said last week.
