Changes on Tap: New owner takes over at Alden Bar
ALDEN – A longtime establishment, popular among locals and visitors alike, is about to get a facelift this winter to welcome even more patrons next spring.
Owned for more than 16 years by Walt and Dee Owens, the Alden Bar and Grille was sold last month to Daniel D. Minor. Minor owns a number of businesses and companies throughout the state, including the highly successful Clam Lake Beer Co. in Cadillac.
Duplicating that success was the deciding factor in Minor’s purchase of the Alden Bar in October, which will soon be rebranded as the Torch Lake Beer Co.
“Essentially, this will be a sister brewery to the Cadillac establishment,” said general manager Adam Morris. “Daniel owns an interest in about 27 businesses that have been very successful. He opened the Clam Lake Beer Co. six years ago – and believes that same concept will work well in Alden.
“Although Alden is much smaller than Cadillac, the village draws a lot of people from the surrounding area and a ton of visitors in the summer. The bar’s location in coordination with being situated on Torch Lake offers a ton of possibilities,” Morris said.
Currently, a sampling of those possibilities is already in motion.
