Central Lake Village Council discusses proposed public safety millage, sharing law enforcement

CENTRAL LAKE — Law enforcement was the primary subject of interest during last week's monthly meeting of the Central Lake Village Council, with discussions on sharing law enforcement services with Torch Lake Township and lowering a proposed public safety millage. 

Central Lake Police Chief Scott Barrett introduced Torch Lake Township Supervisor Bob Cook, who told the Council that the township's repeated efforts to hire an officer to enforce the township's ordinances at $30 an hour had not resulted in any applicants.

"We need someone to help with the speeding issues and with the Torch Lake Day Park, which is just a nightmare for me," he said. "It's a real challenge "We'd like to work out some type of sharing concept with the village."
