Central Lake schools hold long-term planning meeting
CENTRAL LAKE – One year ago, the Central Lake Public School District was facing a serious situation in light of a $300,000 budget deficit that ultimately led to a number of significant cuts, including the layoff of a popular teacher and the school's principal.
After a year of careful budgeting, and an approved enhancement millage from voters last November – as well as an approved school bus bond in August – the future is much brighter.
Acutely aware of its obligations to the area's school district voters, administrators held a long-term planning meeting last week to gather community input regarding the future of Central Lake's schools.
Chaired by district superintendent Lenore Weaver and school board president Greg Shooks, the sparsely attended Thursday, Jan. 25 meeting produced a number of suggestions.
