Central Lake retires Hines’ jersey at ceremony

CENTRAL LAKE — Friends, family and members of the community packed the Central Lake High School gymnasium on Thursday to pay tribute to former basketball star Jasmine Hines.

Hines, who starred for the Trojans from 2007-11, had her jersey retired in a special ceremony held prior to the Trojans’ girls basketball game against Pellston.

“It was definitely an emotional moment because this place means so much to me,” said Hines.  “I grew up here. Like I said (earlier), it takes a village and I feel like so many of these people have been a huge part of my journey and have been more than willing to be a part of my journey. Helped me out, whether it was getting in the gym with me, taking me places, just helping provide for me. It’s just a really special place with special people and I’m blessed to come from this place.”
