Central Lake opens boys basketball season with a win
LAKE LEELANAU — Central Lake boys basketball coach Donovan Eggleston was happy to see how potent his team’s offense looked in Tuesday’s season opener against Lake Leelanau St. Mary’s.
The Trojans’ head coach ended up with mixed feelings about the performance overall, however, as Central Lake’s defense allowed the Eagles to stay in the game until the final quarter of a 70-59 win.
“It’s good and bad,” Eggleston said of the first contest of the year. “Put up 70 points — that’s great. But the defensive end — credit to Lake Leelanau, a good team — but giving up 59-60 points a night, I don’t think we should do that. For me the focus is defense. Happy with the win, that’s great, but it starts again tomorrow with our defense getting shored up.”
