Central Lake beats Pellston in girls hoops thriller
CENTRAL LAKE — Liberty Perry’s jumper with four seconds left put Central Lake ahead for good and the Trojans went on to take a 52-48 win from Pellston on Thursday.
Perry’s game-winner capped off an exciting comeback by the Trojans, who trailed by as many as nine points in the second half and still faced a six-point deficit with less than three minutes remaining.
“Liberty, Katelynn (Wolgamott), Syd (Fernandez) — they were all stepping up,” said Central Lake coach Jim McMichael. “Lexi (Cain) had some nice passes. Great team effort.”
After a close first half, where Pellston scored the last five points of the second period to build a 29-23 halftime advantage, the Hornets were able to extend that lead to 34-25 in the first few minutes of the third quarter. The turning point for Central Lake came when it switched up defenses. That created some turnovers that the Trojans turned into offense and chipped away at the deficit.
