Central Lake approves special financial forensic audit
CENTRAL LAKE — Little was said at the Central Lake Village Council's regular business meeting last week about the situation facing the village in light of questions surrounding the financial activities of the village's former clerk, but that all changed during a hastily-called special meeting just two days later.
The special meeting on Friday, Jan. 10, was needed, Village Council President Larry Eckhardt explained, to approve and ratify a financial forensic audit already underway that had been recommended by the Sheriff's Office as part of a criminal investigation involving Rachael Antaya, the village's clerk/treasurer of the past six years.
After being suspended with pay in December, Antaya formally resigned on Jan. 3, citing personal reasons.
