Calls for Sieting to apologize go unfulfilled

KALKASKA – Kalkaska Village President Jeff Sieting stated his position very clearly: he’s not about to apologize for Facebook posts that some consider hostile, Islamicphobic and racist.

Sieting was again criticized and questioned at the regular Kalkaska Village Council meeting Monday, July 10, on how he’d help the community repair any damage caused by the posts.

The posts triggered a protest organized by the Women’s March Michigan on June 23 that was attended by about 750 people, including many who showed up in support of the village president. Others continued their assault on Sieting at the village council meeting just days later on June 26.

Cindy Anderson, a Traverse City area resident and local property owner, returned to Monday night’s meeting to again challenge Sieting.
