BOC seeks to approve budget at meeting Dec. 16
KALKASKA — The Kalkaska County Board of Commissioners hope to beat the annual deadline of adopting a balanced budget by approving a budget plan for the upcoming 2021 fiscal year when it reconvenes its annual meeting on Wednesday, Dec. 16.
The vote could occur at the upcoming meeting, despite commissioners and other county officials still trying to close a potential $239,000 shortfall in the proposed budget plan of more than $7.75 million.
“It may actually grow,” said District No. 3 Commissioner Kohn Fisher, chairman of the county board, in reference to the funding gap.
But, Fisher said the shortfall must also be kept in perspective, as county officials also look to close out the 2020 budget.
