BOC approves new HR Department
BELLAIRE – After months of discussion, the Antrim County Board of Commissioners agreed to accept the recommendation of its ad-hoc committee and establish the county’s first Human Resources Department.
Ad-hoc Committee Chair Scott Kruger made the motion – supported by fellow Commissioner Melissa Zelenak – at the board’s March 8 meeting that “a Human Resources Department be approved and authorize the hiring for the position of a Human Resources Director with the position to be under the supervision of the County Administrator.”
The motion was approved 6-2, with Commissioners Karen Bargy and Dawn LaVanway opposing the measure. Commissioner Brenda Ricksgers was absent for the vote.
Prior to the vote, LaVanway asked if the committee had checked on the cost of contracting for human resource services.
County Administrator Pete Garwood said the committee had considered that alternative, “but felt it was best to have a full-time person available on site when other county employees are working.”
