Captain Doug Fox, of Foxy's Custom Cruises, and his "first mate" Ringo, are looking forward to making lots of new friends this year with Fox's new cruise service on Antrim County's lower Chain of Lakes.

BELLAIRE – Got a yen to get out on the water and enjoy Torch Lake or the Grass River with a knowledgeable area resident who can offer a safe and pleasant tour?

First mate Ringo would be happy to take you out on the "Anarchy," an attractive 24-foot Tritoon pontoon boat. But since Ringo's a beagle, he'll also bring along his boss, Captain Doug Fox of Foxy's Custom Cruises.

A resident of Bellaire for the past 15 years, Fox has enjoyed boating northern Michigan since he was a teenager. After 27 years in the insurance industry, he and his wife Trish have also enjoyed the waters of the Intracoastal Waterway in southern Florida during the winter months for the past few years as well as Antrim County's Chain of Lakes.

And wherever they went, they ran into people eager to get out on the water that had little or no boating experience or knowledge of the area.

"So, year after year, both up north and in Florida, those people would stand on the edge of the beach or dock and stare out at the water and wonder what it was like out there," Fox said. "They didn't feel comfortable renting a boat themselves, and didn't want to go fishing with one of the charter boat captains in the area.

"They just wanted to get out on a boat, soak up the sunshine or watch a sunset and see the sights, while maybe enjoying a snack or a cocktail," he continued.

"After I met some older ladies who'd spent the season up here for 50 years but had never been out on the water at all, I decided to start offering tours at reasonable prices just about everyone can afford," Fox stated. "Everyone should be able to enjoy the beautiful water of Antrim County with their entire family if they like."

Foxy's Custom Cruises offers customers three different tours of the lower Chain of Lakes.
