Bigby realizes dream with Kalkaska head football coaching job
KALKASKA — Josh Bigby is living the dream as the varsity head football coach at Kalkaska.
Bigby was hired earlier this year to replace Jeremy Wilkinson, who stepped down after nine years leading the Blazers, giving Bigby his first shot as a head coach. It fulfills a longstanding goal for the Oklahoma native to be a football head coach and teacher in Michigan.
“I’ve been around football my whole life,” said Bigby. “I’m a coach’s kid. My dad coached for 33 years. I’ve kind of learned stuff from him and learning stuff being an assistant coach. Just kind of compiled it together. It’s really fun to run your own show instead of being an assistant coach. I have a good coaching staff that I got to hire. I feel like I surrounded myself with good people and that kind of makes my job a little bit better too. I’m more excited than anything else.”
