Bellaire beats Inland Lakes on buzzer beater
BELLAIRE — When the ball left Luke Niepoth’s hands he thought it was short.
If Bellaire’s junior forward had guessed correctly, the Eagles would’ve been headed to overtime in Friday’s boys basketball game against Inland Lakes.
But after Niepoth’s last-second shot hit the front of the rim, it then rolled over the lip of the tin and into the basket as the horn sounded, giving Bellaire a 35-32 win over the visiting Bulldogs. The win was as thrilling as it was much-needed for the Eagles (2-9, 2-6 SVC), who were able to halt a six-game losing skid.
