Attorneys for village employees seek change of venue
KALKASKA – The legal battle between the Village of Kalkaska and a handful of current and former employees could soon take another turn, one that might take it right out of Kalkaska.
Attorneys with the Traverse City law firm of Revision Legal, which is representing the four employees in their fight over lifetime health insurance benefits, filed a 101-page motion in the 46th Circuit Court in Kalkaska on Aug. 7 seeking a transfer of venue.
The motion was filed on behalf of current employee Helen Chew-Artress, as well as former employees Melvin Hill and William Ramsey.
“The court is well aware of the history of this litigation,” the motion states in its introduction. “A trial on damages has been scheduled for November.
“However, due to the village’s actions, a transfer of venue is required so as not to prejudice the plaintiffs’ day in court.”
