Annual Pig Roast celebration to offer an array of family activities
ELLSWORTH – Mark your calendars and plan on a weekend designed to celebrate all that’s great about a "tiny town with a huge heart" when the village of Ellsworth holds its 38th annual Pig Roast on Friday and Saturday, June 15 and June 16.
"It marks the start of another great summer for our area," said this year's organizer Betsy Randall.
The annual celebration will begin on Friday evening with an authentic Mexican dinner hosted by "Grandma" Margarita Oviedo and her family at the Community Park Pavilion, with “real” homemade Mexican chicken tortillas, beans and quesadillas, followed by the popular family water slide and ice cream social hosted by the Banks Township Fire Department and Ellsworth Softball Team.
A 3-point basketball shoot-out, Paddle Antrim Cruise, and a concert by bluegrass band Horton Creek will also take place that evening, as well as an outdoor move, "Jungle Book," sponsored by the Ellsworth FFA.
The celebration will continue early Saturday morning, June 16, Randall said, with a 5K Run and pancake breakfast before the traditional Pig Roast Parade at 11 a.m. featuring this year's Senior King and Queen Bob and Judy Vollmer as well as other "royalty," followed immediately by the roast pork luncheon at the Community Park Pavilion.
