Annual Bellaire Soup Cook-Off, Light Up the Night parade canceled
BELLAIRE — Bellaire's annual celebration of the Christmas season met the same fate as so many other events and festivals this year when it was announced Monday that this year's Light Up the Night parade and soup cook-off has been cancelled.
"After careful consideration, the Bellaire Chamber of Commerce is announcing changes to this year’s Light Up the Night event," said Chamber director Sue Palmisano in a short media release. "The soup cook-off and parade are canceled this year, but we're planning to resume those events next year."
The brief annual village Christmas tree lighting ceremony, as well as the appearance of Santa and Mrs. Claus, is also cancelled.
Instead, the Chamber is asking local businesses to spread the holiday cheer through holiday lighting displays for all to enjoy while social distancing through the holiday season, the Chamber director said.
"A basic Chamber membership will be awarded to the business with the best display." she said. "There will be additional prizes to businesses for second and third place."
