ALDEN – Adam Wayne is a busy man. Besides running two other businesses in the manufacturing industry, Wayne also owns Vista Ridge Vineyards in Alden.

And not to slight the other two, but the latter is his true passion.

“I grew up here and graduated from Mancelona,” Wayne said. “I love northern Michigan and wine is my passion.”

Wayne said he has “dabbled” in making homemade wine for a long time, and was further inspired by friends who live in California wine country. Last year he followed that inspiration to the next level by opening Vista Ridge Vineyards downtown Alden.

The establishment offers “wines handcrafted and vinted locally,” and features wine tastings, charcuterie boards and more.

“My goal was to bring something special to the village … offering another unique aspect to Alden,” said Wayne.

And while he acknowledged that there are a number of established wineries in northern Michigan, his offers a unique twist.

“We are the only tasting room on Torch, and we do work well – and together – with the other local wineries, but I think we offer something truly unique both in our setting and selection,” said Wayne.
