‘Bullying incident’ forces cancellation of Bellaire football game

BELLAIRE — The Bellaire football team figured to be a big underdog against Gaylord St. Mary on Friday.

But the Eagles never had the opportunity to possibly upset the unbeaten Snowbirds after the game was cancelled and forfeited by Bellaire Friday afternoon because of a bullying incident by members of the Bellaire squad toward other teammates.

The incident occurred after school let out Thursday but before practice began. Bellaire Superintendent Mark Brenton declined to specify how many players were involved in the bullying, nor did he say how many players were the ones who were being bullied.

“I can’t give you a specific number,” said Brenton.
